Cycling for Sight (CFS) has two missions: offering the blind and visually-impaired an opportunity to bicycle down the coast from Santa Barbara to San Diego and raising awareness and funds to support Braille Institute in its mission, which is "empowering visually impaired people to live fulfilling lives." Founded in 2005, CFS raises funds for Braille Institute's Youth and Career Services Program. Most visually-impaired students reach early adulthood with little experience in childhood athletics including cycling. In addition, as they mature, blind and visually-impaired youth lack understanding of the working world and their place in it. Visually impaired students deserve the same joys of athletics and career opportunities enjoyed by sighted youth. CFS and BI have therefore partnered to help blind and visually-impaired youth reach their potential by successfully participating in this challenging 3-day ride. CFS hopes to serve as one of many steps on the road to a full, active and productive life for youth and young adults with blindness and eye disease.
